Peel Energy is at the forefront of delivering low carbon energy for the UK and believes that a mix of low carbon technologies is the only way to meet the UK’s growing energy needs. Peel Energy are investing in:
Wind Power
Peel Energy’s onshore wind portfolio is in excess of 450MW and its projects include: England’s largest onshore scheme, Scout Moor Wind Farm in Lancashire (65 MW) which includes 26 2.5 MW turbines; Royal Seaforth Dock Wind Farm in Liverpool (3.6 MW); Port of Liverpool Wind Farm (10 MW); and a recently consented 10 MW scheme on the Port of Sheerness. Peel Energy has also entered into a Joint Venture with UK Coal to develop wind farms on a number of its sites.
Biomass
A number of sites have been identified for the development of a series of biomass power stations at Peel Group facilities and on third party land, with a potential output of 20 MW or up to 300 MW each.
Multi-Fuel Generation with Carbon Capture and Storage
Peel Energy has partnered with DONG Energy to develop solutions that will make fossil-fuelled generation a genuine low-carbon route through the implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) on a commercial scale. The partnership is currently investigating the possibility of gaining permission for a 1,600 MW power station at Hunterston, North Ayrshire.
Tidal Power
Peel Energy has been working with the Northwest Regional Development Agency and Mersey Basin Campaign, to explore the potential of generating electricity from tidal power in the Mersey Estuary. A feasibility study will be launched later in 2009 to identify a preferred scheme to take into planning.
